We’re excited to introduce the VolunteerHub Mobile App—a new way for volunteers to access their schedules, check in and out of opportunities, and stay connected while on the go. Available now on iOS and Android, the app makes the volunteer experience more convenient and organized than ever before.
Today’s volunteers spend a lot of time on their phones. In fact, more than 91% of Americans own a smartphone (Pew Research, 2024), and most expect the organizations they interact with to offer mobile-friendly tools. For nonprofits, this means providing an experience that aligns with how volunteers already manage much of their daily life.
The VolunteerHub Mobile App was created to meet that expectation. By giving volunteers instant access to their schedules and the ability to check in and out of events from anywhere, the app removes logistical barriers that can slow things down. Instead of digging through emails, logging into a desktop, or waiting in line at an event kiosk, volunteers can handle everything they need directly from their phones. This convenience not only saves time but also creates a smoother, more modern experience for everyone involved.
Volunteer engagement isn’t just about passion or motivation; it’s also about removing barriers. When volunteers have an easy way to see where they’re needed and check in without hassle, they’re more likely to show up, fulfill their commitments, and return for future opportunities. The VolunteerHub Mobile App helps eliminate common friction points by placing essential tools directly in the hands of volunteers.
By making the experience more organized, the app enhances overall satisfaction and creates a smoother path to participation.
The VolunteerHub Mobile App is designed to make day-of participation smoother and more convenient for volunteers. One of the most useful features is the ability to instantly view the day’s schedule. Volunteers no longer need to dig through old confirmation emails or log in through a browser—they can open the app and immediately see where they need to be.
Checking in and out of opportunities is also easier than ever. With the Kiosk Module and Volunteer Check-In Code enabled, volunteers can handle the process themselves directly from their phones. This self-service approach reduces bottlenecks at events and frees up staff to focus on other priorities.
Because the app works on both iOS and Android devices, volunteers can stay connected wherever they are.
While the VolunteerHub Mobile App provides convenience for volunteers, it’s helpful to understand a few important details about how it works. First, the app is available to organizations on all VolunteerHub plans, so every nonprofit using the platform can make it available to their volunteers. However, to unlock its full functionality, the Kiosk Module must be enabled. This feature allows volunteers to check in and out of opportunities using their phones, ensuring accurate attendance tracking and streamlined event management.
It’s also worth noting that the app is designed specifically for volunteers, not administrators. Tasks like creating events, editing forms, or managing volunteer data still need to be handled through the web version of VolunteerHub. Volunteers, on the other hand, will only see events they are registered for on the current day. Browsing for new opportunities and registering for future events remains a desktop function.
Finally, if a volunteer has not completed required forms, waivers, or registration questions in advance, the app will prevent check-in until those steps are finished. This safeguard ensures compliance while still delivering a convenient and reliable check-in experience.
Now that you know how the app works, let’s look at how to start using it right away. Volunteers can download the app directly from the App Store or Google Play, then sign in using their existing VolunteerHub credentials. Once logged in, they’ll see their schedule for the day and, if the Kiosk Module is enabled, can quickly check in and out of events.
For organizations, the most important step is making sure the Kiosk Module and Volunteer Check-In Code are activated. These features are what allow the mobile app to function properly, ensuring that attendance is tracked accurately and volunteers have the seamless check-in experience the app was designed to deliver. Admins should also remind volunteers to complete any required forms, waivers, or registration questions before event day, since those must be done before mobile check-in will work.
Does the app allow administrator access?
No, the app is only volunteer-facing. For administrative tasks, you must access the site.
Can I still use the website on my phone without the app?
Yes, which scales to mobile devices, both on the Volunteer View and Admin View.
When would we use the mobile app vs. the web (PWA)?
The app is for events on the current day that the volunteer has already registered for and allows check-in. The web (PWA) provides the full functionality of VolunteerHub.
The VolunteerHub Mobile App gives volunteers a faster, more convenient way to stay connected to their volunteer experiences. Simplifying schedules and streamlining check-ins enhances the overall volunteer experience while also reducing administrative workload for organizations. Whether you’re a volunteer looking for a smoother way to stay on track or an admin wanting to modernize your program, the VolunteerHub Mobile App is a valuable addition to your toolkit.
